How to use WinEdt's Help?WinEdt comes with an extensive Help that covers many topics related to the editor and its integration with TeX Systems: |

|
If you have an idea what you are looking for you can search for the keyword in WinEdt Help's Index. For example:
Furthermore, WinEdt's Interfaces (Dialogs) feature a Help button which will display the help topic relevant to the contents of the interface. In particular, WinEdt's Options Menu contains many dialogs that can be used to change certain aspects of WinEdt's behavior and thus customize the default interface to better suit your needs.
The Help in the Dictionary Manager Dialog will guide you is you need assistance with installing additional dictionaries or changing the default spell-checking preferences. WinEdt's Help Menu also contains extended documentation related to WinEdt's Macro language and the meaning of %Variables. The macro manual is a plain text file and it is viewed in WinEdt. You should consult this document if you want to add menu items (eg. additional accessories that should be launched with the Run Macro).
Depending on your choice of a TeX System WinEdt's Help Menu may also contain some items referring to TeX's documentation and Help system. This documentation comes with your TeX System and it is not a part of WinEdt. Most TeX Systems contain more documentation and samples in their Doc folder(s). This documentation should be consulted if you are experiencing TeX related problems (eg. graphic inclusion, the location of *.sty or *.bib files, etc...). Beginners often confuse such issues for WinEdt-related topics and seek help in the wrong forum: WinEdt is an ASCII editor with the ability to launch external applications (such as TeX Compilers). Note that it is not WinEdt that compiles your bibliography or index. WinEdt merely launches the executable (such as bibtex.exe or makeindex.exe) which comes with your TeX System. The result depends on many things such as your source, the packages being used in your document, etc..., but not on WinEdt! |
