Pro Cite

Importing from PubMed

How to import data into ProCite from the National Library of Medicine's PubMed website via a web browser.

Click on any of the images to the right to enlarge.

This tutorial starts at the following URL http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/

After conducting a search it will display all of the results along with the some options for extracting the reference information.

From the drop down list (see right) select the Medline format. This is what the ProCite config. files are made to look for. Click save to continue.

Your browser should prompt you to save. If you are taken to a page of plain text then select SAVE AS from the browser's FILE menu.

When saving we recommend changing the extension from .fcgi to .txt. as it will make it easier to find when browsing for this file.

When importing from within ProCite make sure to select the Pubmed.cfg.
