Using EndNote with BioMedNet

This document describes how to send search results directly from the BioMedNet Evaluated MEDLINE service to an EndNote library. With this functionality, you can get all the benefits of using BioMedNet's web-based search interface and instantly transfer the search results to EndNote -- without the extra steps of saving the references to a text file and importing them. BioMedNet is an Internet community for biological and medical researchers. Membership is free.

(Note that this is not a new EndNote connection file. It is a way to use BioMedNet's search interface, and then effortlessly transfer your search results to an EndNote library.)

Getting Started

In order to use this feature, you will need:

1. EndNote 3.0 or later (Macintosh or Windows).
   If you do not already have EndNote installed, you will need to install it first.
2. EndNote 3.1.2 Update for Windows or the Macintosh.
   Download and install this update to enable your copy of EndNote 3.0 or 3.0.1 to receive search results directly from the BioMedNet web page. If you are using version 3.1.2, you do not need to download the updater.
3. BioMedNet Membership (Free)
   BioMedNet's Evaluated MEDLINE service includes full-text links, expert annotations, and more. A password is required to access this information, but there is no charge for it. You simply need to sign up!

Using BioMedNet with EndNote

Log in to BioMedNet's Evaluated MEDLINE database with your login name and password.

1. Enter your search criteria and click Search. (More information about conducting searches is available from the BioMedNet web site.)
2. Check the "Direct Import to EndNote" option at the top of the search results page.
3. Select the references from your search results that you would like to save to your EndNote library, and click "View Selected" or "View All" (depending on whether you want to save all of the references or just the selected ones).
4. EndNote will start and prompt you to select the database where the references should be saved. Select the desired database and your references will transfer directly to it.
