ISI ResearchSoft Ships EndNote Version 6 For Macintosh OS X
EndNote 6 defines Bibliographies and now Manuscripts Made Easy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Carlsbad, CA, USA - August 5, 2002 - Today, ISI ResearchSoft, a Thomson business (NYSE,
TSX: TOC), shipped a major upgrade to the world's most popular bibliographic management software-EndNote
(patent pending). Long known for "Bibliographies Made Easy," EndNote 6 now defines "Manuscripts
Made Easy." EndNote 6 smartly advances research and publishing by organizing images with text,
and by providing built-in Microsoft Word templates for a variety of journals. These new features, along
with a more intuitive interface and new connectivity, take EndNote 6 beyond bibliographies making it
an essential manuscript management tool for writing, research and publishing.
"As our users know, EndNote originated on the Mac and delivering EndNote for Mac OS X solidifies
our commitment to Apple's super-modern operating system and our mutual customers," said David
Kochalko, President of ISI ResearchSoft. "EndNote is truly groundbreaking. For the first time
users can cite figures as easily as they now cite references in their papers and use templates to construct
manuscripts for submission to publishers."
"The ability to run both advanced UNIX applications and productivity applications on one powerful
computer makes Mac OS X the perfect platform for researchers, academics and students," said Ron
Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "EndNote is a powerful tool
for manuscript management, and we're thrilled to see the latest version running on Mac OS X."
Breakthrough Functionality EndNote 6 is the first bibliographic
software program to manage more than just text. Any type of generic image (e.g., BMP, TIFF, JPEG) or
application file (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, ChemDraw) can now be managed along with traditional text
references. Users can access images and files directly from their EndNote libraries in Microsoft Word
to create a figure list for their manuscripts.
"Until now, searching for images and other files to cite in my paper was
tedious. EndNote has solved that problem. Now I find them quickly and can even click on the thumbnail
to edit the image." - Alistair Campbell, Lincoln University, New Zealand
With its built-in Microsoft Word templates (e.g., APA, Nature, BioMed Central), EndNote 6 guides
users through the exacting manuscript requirements of publishers, saving time and increasing accuracy.
Completed manuscripts are now submission-ready with all the key elements including EndNote's instantly
formatted in-text citations, bibliography, and figure list. "EndNote prepared manuscripts help
us to deliver on speed and efficiency in the publishing process," said Matthew Cockerill, Technical
Director of BioMed Central.
Cutting-Edge Connectivity EndNote 6 builds on its leadership
in connectivity by adding new and updated content files, bringing the combined total of output styles,
import filters, connection files and manuscript templates to over 1400. These indispensable files enable
researchers to collect data from online sources and to publish manuscripts. Many online databases,
such as ISI Web of Science, Highwire Press, Ovid, OCLC, ProQuest, and more provide direct export of
references into EndNote. Users can also take advantage of EndNote 6's unique traveling libraries by
importing references directly from colleagues' papers to their personal EndNote libraries. Together,
these new features transform EndNote 6 into an essential online research tool and manuscript manager.
