A Short Biography

Chikrii Arkadii Alexeyevich was born in Ukraine (Khmelnitskii region, Tarnoruda) on 20 july 1945; in 1968 graduated from mechanical-mathematical department of Lvov university, Ukraine, degree in mathematics; in 1972 obtained candidate degree, in 1979 -- doctor degree in physics and mathematics; since 1968 has been working at the Cybernetics Institute of National Ukrainian Academy of Science as junior researcher, senior researcher, leading researcher and since 1988 as the head of the department of "Optimization of Controlled Processes'', author of 250 scientific publications, in their number, four monographs:

  1. Conflict Controlled Processes, Naukova Dumka, Kyiv, 1992, 384 p.;
  2. Linear-Quadratic Differential Games, Naukova Dumka, Kyiv, 1994, 320 p. (in coauthorship with Zhukovskii V.J.);
  3. Conflict-controlled Processes, Kluwer Academic Publisher, Boston-London-Dordrecht, 1997, 424 p.;
  4. Soft Landing of Moving Objects, NIST, Gaithersburg, USA, 1998, 137 p. (in coauthorship with J. Albus, A. Meystel).;

and also the surveys in the following books by the groups of the authors

Chikrii A.A. is the member of editorial staffs of the Journals "Problems of Control and Informatics'' and "Cybernetics and Computing Technology'' republished in the USA; Soros professor of Kyiv National university; member of American Mathematical Society, corresponding member NAS of Ukraine.

The scope of scientific interests is applied nonlinear analysis, mathematical theory of optimal control, the theory of differential and integral games, the theory of search of moving objects and its applications in the creation of control systems for spacecrafts and aircrafts, and systems of search of moving objects.

Arkadii Chikrii is a member of several scientific organizations, among which are AMS (American Mathematical Society), ISDG (International Society of Dynamic Games), GAMM (Gesellschaft fur Angewandte Mathematik and Mechanik). In 1999 he was elected a Vice-President of Ukrainian Association of Automatic Control (IFAC division). Prof. Chikrii was elected an academican of Ukrainian Airspace Academy (1994), a corresponding member of International Academy of Computer Sciences and Systems (1995) and a corresponding member of National Academy of Sciences (1997).

He is a member of editorial board of following scientific journals:
