Analysis of Ordinal Variables Part 1: Preliminary Analysis
Karl G. Joreskog
Revised October 18, 2001
Because of the mathematical content and length of this contribution to Karl's Corner, we are only making
it available as a PDF file. It can then be printed using
Adobe's Acrobat Reader (version 4 and higher). This document is hard to read on screen, because it uses the Computer
Modern fonts from the LaTeX typesetting system that were designed for printing.
In a sequence of notes to appear, Karl Joreskog will discuss how one can analyze ordinal variables with PRELIS
and LISREL. Some of the features for analyzing ordinal data have been available in previous versions of PRELIS
and LISREL, but were never properly explained and illustrated. Other features are new to PRELIS 2.50 and LISREL
8.50 (currently only available for MS Windows platforms).
In this note Karl describes how one can use PRELIS for data screening and treatment of missing values. This
note will be followed later with a sequence of notes that describes
